Marco Dotti is a young Italian luthier based in Cremona, and demand for his work is growing steadily.

He graduated from the Cremona Violin Making School and works in the workshop of Edgar Russ, one of the most established makers in the city. He works from Guarneri del Gesu, including the 1744 "Sainton", the same model Russ himself returns to, and his instruments carry a good deal of the character of the originals rather than a smoothed-out version of them.

His violins are played by professional and advanced players in Italy and the United Kingdom.

The "Sainton" model we had was the best Dotti we have tried. Much like the original it is full of character, with a rich tone on the darker side and a very broad sounding G string. His instruments are in more and more demand, and at his stage of career the value is considerable. Worth trying before the prices catch up with the reputation.
