Benedicte Friedmann is a French luthier working from her own workshop in Cremona, and one of the finest makers in the city. She is best known for her Guadagnini models.
Her instruments are expertly crafted, with a varnish that is sublime and flames on the back that are frequently the first thing a player comments on. Her instruments carry certification both from her and from the Consorzio Liutai Antonio Stradivari in Cremona. She describes an element of sensitivity in violin making, of components coming together to reach a unique harmonic balance, and says her aim is to convey that sensitivity through the instruments themselves.
Her violins are played by professional violinists internationally.
She is known for Guadagnini models and for good reason: her examples are some of the most beautiful violins we have ever seen, and her sense of artistry and aesthetic comes across in each one. The sound is not the junior partner to the appearance. It can readily be compared to the best antique instruments, the whole violin sings with its full body, and its power is matched only by the beauty of the tone. It would suit any career but will shine in the hands of a great violinist.
