Andrea Giovannetti and Kyle Schultz work together in Florence, making violins, violas and cellos. They are among the most decorated young partnerships in Italian making.
Giovannetti trained with Luca Primon in Vicenza, with Gianmaria Stelzer in Bassano del Grappa, and with Andreas Hudelmayer in London. Schultz trained at the Newark School of Violin Making. Their work has taken First Prize and the Gold Medal at the 2023 International Violin Making Competition in Pisogne, and further awards at Pisogne in 2019 and at Baveno in 2018 and 2022. Since 2018 they have collaborated on new instruments and restoration together.
The violinist Domenico Pierini plays their instruments, and their competition record has brought them attention well beyond Florence.
Andrea and Kyle are a recent addition for us and their competition record speaks for itself. Two makers working on one instrument is a different discipline from a single maker with an assistant, and in their case it shows in the consistency of the finish. We will have more to say once we have had more of their work through the showroom.
We are very pleased to present the very first violin we have from talented luthiers Andrea Giovannetti and Kyle Schultz. This violin is modelled after mid-1730s Del Gesu and combines beautiful stylistic features of many different Del Gesu violins, including the "Baltic", "Plowden", "Cessole", and more. It is entirely their own creation and very unique in its presentation. The antiquing is absolutely stunning, and one of the finest we have seen this year. It is a resonant and sweet sounding instrument - very balanced and well-rounded. The E and G strings sing beautifully and offer a nice richness in sound.
