Most repairs are quoted individually, because the work needed is rarely obvious until the instrument is on the bench. Bring it in and we will assess it free of charge, then confirm the cost in writing before anything is started. No work is carried out without your approval.
The table below covers the jobs we are asked for most often. Larger restoration, structural repairs and varnish work are quoted after assessment. All prices include VAT.

Ariel Lang and Pedro Silva started MyLuthier as students at the Royal Academy of Music, and both still play. Repairs are carried out in house by our resident luthier Sing Him Wong, a graduate with merit of Lutherie School Antwerpen (ILSA). You speak to the person holding your instrument, and nothing goes back in the case until the work has been checked on the bench and the instrument has been played.

Common jobs at MyLuthier start from £50 for an open seam and £75 for a crack repair. A new bridge, cut and fitted, is £330 for violin, £350 for viola and £550 for cello. Larger work is quoted after a free assessment. All prices include VAT.
Straightforward work can be back with you in as little as one week. Larger repairs and restoration take longer, and we give you a timescale along with the quote.
Stop playing the instrument if the damage appears structural, don't attempt to glue or clean the damaged area, and keep any loose pieces. Contact us or send photographs if you're unsure whether it is safe to continue using it.
A repair addresses a specific fault, such as a crack, open seam or damaged fitting. Restoration is broader work intended to preserve an instrument and return it to stable, playable condition, often involving several areas at once.

Yes. We are happy to assess student instruments and will tell you frankly if the repair is likely to cost more than is sensible for the instrument.
Yes. Fine and antique instruments are assessed individually, with a written quote and a discussion of the options before any work begins. Where a proposed repair could affect an instrument's value, originality or future restoration options, we discuss this with you before any work begins.
Yes. The MyLuthier workshop at 49 Little Britain is by appointment only, Monday to Friday from 10am to 5pm. Booking takes a minute online, or call 0330 133 4225.
We are happy to receive instruments by post from clients based in the United Kingdom. Once the work is complete, collection can be done in person or the instrument can be sent back by post for an additional fee.
