Atelier MyLuthier is a workshop instrument in the oldest sense of the phrase. The great shops of Cremona and Paris worked this way: several pairs of hands, one bench, one standard, under a single direction. Amati, Stradivari, Vuillaume and the Gagliano family all ran shops of exactly this kind, with a recognisable house style.
Our workshop is directed by Sing Him Wong, a graduate with merit of the Internationale Lutherie School Antwerpen, where he studied under Anton Sommers and Erik Buys. Every Atelier instrument is overseen by him from the bench through to final setup.
We represent more than sixty living makers, and for ten years we have watched players compare their instruments side by side. That gives us an unusual perspective, as we see which instruments players respond to when they have several very good options in front of them.
Atelier grew out of that experience. The aim is not to reproduce any one maker's work, but to apply what we have learned from hundreds of hours spent listening to players choose: response, balance, projection and, above all, an instrument that makes you want to keep playing.
All prices include VAT. Case and bow are separate, and we will help you choose both. A commission takes three to six months from order to collection. You choose the pattern, and we will discuss varnish style, colour and the degree of antiquing with you as the instrument is made.

Every Atelier instrument is covered by our Trade-In Guarantee. If you later decide to move to another instrument in the MyLuthier Collection, we credit 100% of the original purchase price towards the next one, subject to the terms of the guarantee.

Our own north London workshop, where several skilled makers work to one standard, directed by our resident luthier Sing Him Wong, a graduate with merit of the Internationale Lutherie School Antwerpen. Every instrument passes through his hands before it is finished. This is how the historic Cremonese and Parisian shops worked.
The Stradivari pattern is brighter and more even, carries well in a hall and forgives less. The Guarneri is broader and darker, with more resistance under the bow, and rewards a player who pushes. Most players choose the Stradivari. The only way to decide is to play both, which you can do in the showroom.
Three to six months from order to collection. We make around twenty instruments a year across violin, viola and cello, so the wait depends on what is already on the bench when you order.
Yes. On a commission you choose the pattern first, then the varnish style, the colour and how much antiquing you want, from clean and new to noticeably worn. We will talk it through as the work goes on and show you where it has got to.
No, both are separate. That is deliberate, because a bow is as personal as the instrument and we would rather you chose one that suits how you play than have one bundled in. We carry a range of both and will help you match them.
Yes. Every Atelier instrument carries our trade-in guarantee: 100% of what you paid, credited towards another instrument from our collection, once a year, for as long as you own it. Not a depreciated figure, the price you paid.
We offer a Trade-In Guarantee, which preserves the full original purchase price as credit towards another eligible instrument in the MyLuthier Collection. If your primary objective is collecting or investment rather than playing, we would approach that conversation differently and may suggest looking at established makers or antique instruments instead.
Yes, and we encourage it! Book an appointment at 49 Little Britain and play on our latest instruments, alongside instruments by the makers we represent at higher price points. If nothing is available on the day we will tell you before you travel.
