Soundpost, bridge and strings, adjusted until an instrument does what you want it to. Carried out in our own workshop, by appointment, and assessed at no charge.
A violin is held in tension, and small changes to where that tension sits make large changes to how it sounds. Moving the soundpost by a fraction of a millimetre, recutting a bridge, changing a string set: any of these can shift an instrument from tight to open, or from harsh to warm, without touching the instrument itself.
It is slow work and it is done by ear, with the player present wherever possible. We make a change, you play, we listen, and we go again.
Adjustment is done by appointment at 49 Little Britain, London EC1A 7BH, Monday to Friday, and we take a limited number each week. The initial assessment is free. Instruments purchased from us are adjusted at no charge for as long as you own them.
