Fabien Peyruc is a French master luthier working from his own workshop in Toulouse, where he makes violins, violas and cellos.
He trained in Cremona at the I.P.I.A.L.L. Antonio Stradivari and at the School of Stringed Instrument-making in Mirecourt, and has been making since 2003. He worked alongside Christian Delfour before taking over the Delfour workshop in 2009. He works from Amati among other models, and builds violas at body lengths chosen to suit players of different sizes. Every instrument leaves with his certificate.
His instruments are played by soloists and chamber musicians in France and the United Kingdom.
The 2018 Amati model viola was beautifully crafted, with a body length of 41.5cm that makes it manageable for violists of most sizes. It has a beautiful tone and powerful projection, and suits a soloist or a chamber player. Peyruc is one of the French makers whose violas we return to, precisely because he treats size and sound as one decision rather than two.
