Gregg Alf is a leading violin maker who has earned a reputation for crafting high-quality concert instruments. He graduated from the Violinmaking School in Cremona, Italy in 1980, where he lived for many years before establishing the successful partnership of Curtin & Alf with his friend Joseph Curtin.
Gregg's exceptional work has earned him several gold medals and the distinction of "Hors Concours" from the Violin Society of America. He now runs Alf Studios in the United States and is sought after as a teacher, sharing his knowledge and experience with aspiring violin makers. Many of his students have gone on to establish successful careers of their own.
In addition to his work as a maker, Gregg is highly regarded in the industry as a judge at international violin making competitions, guest lecturer and examiner at violin making schools worldwide. He has curated several important exhibitions, including the 2016 Messiah Stradivari Exhibition in Cremona and the Tokyo Stradivarius Festival in 2018. He is a member of the American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers and the International Entente of Violinmakers EILA.
Gregg's work has been featured in several exhibitions, including the Ole Bull celebration in Bergen, Norway, and is held in loan collections by the Royal Academy of London, the Amati Foundation, Dextra Musica, and the Maestro Foundation.
