Auguste Sébastien Philippe Bernardel, known as Bernardel "Père", trained in Mirecourt before working in Paris for Nicolas Lupot and then Charles François Gand. He opened his own shop in 1826 and worked for forty years until 1866, favouring classical Cremonese models. His cellos are particularly well regarded.
