One of the best known bow makers in Italy, Walter Barbiero enjoys a vast reputation as one of the leading archetiers of his generation. He makes bows for all string instruments and all periods. His bows are played by top musicians such as Viktoria Mullova, Isabelle Faust, Mario Brunello & more.
He has a particular passion for baroque and classical bows. As such, he has made bows for Giuliano Carmignola, who used one to record Vivaldi concertos for Deutsche Grammophon. Another recording featuring one of his bows is Viktoria Mullova’s Bach Sonatas and Partitas for Onux.
His bows differ from the others for their soft and elegant sound but above all for their good technical characteristics. He always prioritises the player as he feels that musicians can best express their thoughts, emotions and music through his bows.

The cello bow comes certified from the Luthier, Walter Barbiero. About Walter Barbiero I received a diploma in viola from the Conservatoire “A. Steffani” of Castelfranco Veneto, with Luca Volpato, and a diploma at the “Ecole Nationale de Musique et de Dance” in France with H. Suignard. For two years I cooperated with the “La Grande Ecourie et la Chambre du Roy” orchestra directed by J.C. Malgoire in Paris. My great passion to work with wood, inspired me to start as a self-taught person. Later I studied to improve myself with the aid of great architects such as Nelly Poidevin in France and Alfredo Clemente in Cologne. My passion and my studies led me to pay special attention to ancient bows, baroque and classics, and bows of the transition period. I also make bows of baroque period for many professional musicians, in particular for the great musician Giuliano Carmignola, a dear friend of mine. With one of my bows, made expressly for him, he has recorded Vivaldi’s concerts for the “Deutsche Grammophon”. Every year since 2001, I have taken part in the “Musik Messe” exposition of Frankfurt, the “Musicorà” in Paris, the “Mondomusica” in Cremona, the “VSA” in the USA and the “Strumenti della musica antica” exposition in Urbino. My bows differ from the others for their soft and elegant sound but above all for their good technical characteristics. For a musician, the bow is indispensable to express all his person, his though, his emotions, his deep heart….. his music. Middle ages, renaissance, baroque, classical periods and modern bows for ancient and modern music.
