The Allure of the Cello

Let’s take a moment to appreciate the cello. This extraordinary string instrument has a voice that sings—it’s deep, warm, and expressive.

From the elegant melodies of classical compositions to the lively rhythms in folk music, the cello can do it all!

Picking up this instrument isn’t just about hitting the right notes; it’s an opportunity to express your emotions in ways that words can’t capture.

As an adult, juggling work, family, and daily life stresses can be overwhelming. But with cello lessons, you carve out a special time just for you. It’s your moment to escape, unwind, and simply enjoy making music.

And here’s a secret: learning to play the cello exercises your brain! Your right hand

keeps the bow moving while your left hand dances on the fingerboard, all while your mind stays focused on the music. It’s like a workout for your brain, enhancing memory and concentration. You’ll be amazed at how sharp you feel!

Build Connections

But wait—there’s more! Learning the cello also opens up a treasure trove of social opportunities. Enrolling in group classes connects you with fellow aspiring musicians.

Imagine sharing laughs and challenges with the people in your class as you all embark on this thrilling musical journey together. You’re not just learning an instrument; you’re building a community!

Plus, think about joining a local orchestra or a chamber group. The thrill of playing alongside others, creating harmony, and sharing the joy of music is simply unparalleled. Those connections you make? They could turn into lifelong friendships!

Embrace the Journey

Mastering the cello isn’t without its hurdles—perhaps tricky finger placements or finding the right bowing technique. But don’t let that intimidate you!

Each challenge you face will push you to grow in ways you never imagined.

Picture this: one evening, you can’t get a particular piece right, and the next, you nail it. That feeling of accomplishment? It’s addictive!

With each small success, your confidence soars, spilling over into other aspects of your life.

Physical Wellness

And let’s not forget about the physical benefits! Playing the cello requires you to stand tall and maintain good posture.

About

Leo Goujard Spiga

Cello by Leo Goujard Spiga, France 2021

Leo Goujard Spiga discovered the art of violin making when he visited a luthier’s workshop in Spain at the age of 16. He devoted all of his time from that point on to the violin and moved to Cremona, where he trained at the Antonio Stradivari international school.

Having learned the fundamental principles of Italian violinmaking, he continued his training with recognized masters all around Europe. For eight years he has worked alongside Robert Brewer Young, in France, making instruments that are currently played by established professionals and soloists.

Leo Goujard has a particular affinity for the Neapolitan school, and regularly works in Italy, in the living tradition of the Gagliano family, using the finest examples of their work as a point of departure for his own. The grace, individuality and power of this southern Italian tradition can be seen and heard in the violins, violas and cellos he creates with passion in his workshop in the French Pyrenees and Italy.

About

Douglas MacArthur

Cello by Douglas MacArthur, Scotland

I am continually working with musicians to develop the tone and playability of my instruments, travelling, sometimes hundreds of miles, to study the master works of Stradivari, Guarneri etc, as well as those of my contemporaries, and putting the time aside to study in depth all aspects of my craft.
