Guido Giardino is an Argentine luthier dedicated principally to making and restoring cellos. He is an emerging maker and, on current form, one to keep an eye on.
He trained in Cremona between 2010 and 2013 and has worked independently since 2016. He works most often from Stradivari, returning repeatedly to the "ex-Cristiani", and pays close attention to setup, which is a large part of why his instruments arrive playing well.
His cellos are played by musicians in Switzerland, Italy, Spain, England and Argentina.
Guido's cellos have got better with each one we have taken. The 2023 was the finest we had encountered from him at the time, with remarkable tonal clarity across every register, richly resonant bass notes, a potent A string and, thanks to a meticulous setup, exceptional playability and comfort. The 2024 went further again: immense power and projection, an A string with genuinely soloistic qualities, and a full, resonant tone with beautiful balance behind it. At his price range they are a must-try.
