Violin by Antoni Ruschil, 2014 ‘L’Albero Fiorito’

Antoni Ruschil is a British luthier running a bespoke violin making workshop in central London. He has been one of our partnered makers since MyLuthier was founded.

He works to his own personal model rather than to copies, and both the aesthetic and the sound are recognisably his. His workshop supplies instruments and services to the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, alongside private clients. He is also willing to take on material other makers would not: his 2022 violin "Il Diavolo" was built with back, ribs and neck from an exhibition-quality pyinma burl, the first violin ever made from the species, using the only known piece of that wood large enough for the purpose, with the ribs lined in fine Japanese paper for strength.

His violins are played by professional musicians across London and are in regular use at the capital's leading conservatoires.

Antoni's violins have been particularly popular among London musicians for as long as we have been trading. His 2021 "The Horsley", which he described as his most personal creation to that point, is the clearest statement of what he is after: a precise and crisp sound with warmth right through the register, and an overall character on the darker side. He is a maker who takes real risks with material and design, and the striking thing is how consistently the sound holds up when he does.
