Lorenzo Cassi is an Italian luthier based in Cremona. His work is refined and elegant, and he reinterprets classical models rather than copying them.
He draws on the Cremonese masters, Antonio Stradivari, Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesu and Nicolo Amati, on the Brescians such as Gasparo da Salo, and on the Venetians such as Domenico Montagnana. What he is after in every case is a sound that is powerful and rich in harmonics, carried by proportions that are well judged and elegant. His instruments bear a distinct personal character and reflect an evident passion for the craft.
His violins are played by professional and advanced players across Europe.
The Stradivari model we had from Lorenzo was one of the most eye-catching new-looking violins in our collection, and it backed up its appearance. The sound is brilliant and projecting, with a very pleasing overtone signature. The phrase "Italian sound" gets used loosely in this trade, but it applies here as precisely as anywhere we can think of.
