Daniele Tonarelli

Italian | Based in Cremona, Italy

I was born in Cremona in 1976, the home of lute–making art since 16th century. The city is rich in traditions and old craft workshops where technique, skills and studies have been handed down from father to son. It is the Cremona of Antonio Stradivari and Andrea Amati.

Daniele Tonarelli is one of our best selling makers from Cremona. Even though we have always been impressed by the quality of his work, this Guadagnini model is perhaps the best sounding example we've had from this maker. The sound is very balanced and particularly impressive in the upper positions. The quality is powerful, focused and resonant. Perfectly suited for chamber music or solo playing.

Ever since we met master luthier Daniele Tonarelli at his workshop in Cremona in 2018, we fell in love with the warm quality of his instruments and impeccable craftsmanship. We have since sold many of his violins all over the world. We have seen and heard many different models, but this 1772 G. B. Guadagnini is the one that captivated us so early on. It sounds like a true masterpiece. Perfectly blending power and warmth, Daniele perfectly encapsulates in this violin the sound for which he is so well-known. It is very even and balanced so players can seamlessly travel from one string to another. A very impressive violin which would be ideal for a strong player who needs to project.

Since then, his instruments have found homes with musicians across the UK, USA, Germany, Spain, Iceland, and beyond. Daniele's instruments have a universal player appeal for their satisfying response and warmth of tone. This particular piece, a Guadagnini model, exemplifies his craftsmanship. Among the many models we've encountered, this 1772 G. B. Guadagnini stands out, capturing our admiration from the start.
