Marco Cargnelutti is an Italian luthier working from his own workshop in Udine, in the north-east of Italy. Born in 1983 in Gemona del Friuli, he came to violin making after visiting a workshop in his own region.

He trained at the A. Stradivari International Violin Making School in Cremona under a succession of masters: Angelo Sperzaga and Wanna Zambelli, and also Massimo Negroni, Luca Bellini and Daniele Scolari. From them he learned the Cremonese method of construction, which he now applies from Udine rather than Cremona. He works from Stradivari, and his instruments carry a deep red varnish that is one of the first things people notice. Every instrument leaves with his certificate.

His instruments are played by professional and advanced players in Italy and the United Kingdom.

Marco is a younger maker and his work already displays his full talent. The violin we had was extremely well made, powerful, easy to play and with good projection, which is an attractive combination at any stage of a career. The craftsmanship is genuinely fine and the deep red varnish is beautiful, reminiscent of a Davide Sora instrument. He will no doubt have a stellar path building instruments and we expect to hear a great deal more of him in the coming years.
